By delivering unparalleled support, mentorship and business connections, the IoT &

Data startups in the program grow and develop in the three months time, for what would otherwise have taken them 1.5 year. The program starts in January, at the moment Startupbootcamp is scouting for the best startups around the world. In order to find them, pitch days are organized all around the globe. And Rome is up next! Startupbootcamp is delighted to be a partner of the IOT360 summit. During the summit, Startupbootcamp will host a pitch day at the IOT360 venue on the 28th of October. Applications for this pitch day are now OPEN! Startupbootcamp will select 10 startups in the field of IoT and Data that can pitch during this day, in front of a panel of experienced global and local mentors (being entrepreneurs, investors and experts in the field of IoT & Data). Startups will receive constructive and honest feedback in one on one sessions with the mentors. Startups, you´re invited to apply here! Interested in this event, of do you have any questions? Please contact Susan through susan@startupbootcamp.org.

SaSeIoT 2014 https://iot-360.eu/2014/saseiot-2014/ https://iot-360.eu/2014/saseiot-2014/#comments Wed, 21 May 2014 13:15:57 +0000 https://iot-360.eu/?p=587 Safety and Security in Internet of Things – https://securityiot.eu/2014

The infrastructure of large cities is getting more and more vulnerable to natural and an-made disasters. Complex ICT infrastructures, critical dependencies and unforeseen cascading effects can aggravate single hazard events to a threatening crisis of whole infrastructures. With the dense population and the critical dependency on infrastructures, such crises become a serious threat to the safety and security of citizens and industries. When the “unforeseen” happens, public security comes to its limits. Whether cyber, natural or industrial disasters – effective risk management must be a continuous process that recognizes new threats and opportunities, in particular in relation to new technological evolutions. Internet of Things (IoT) will have an enormous impact on our future infrastructures. In the context of safety and security this is at the same time a challenge (How can we design IoT infrastructures secure and resilient?) and an opportunity (How can we use IoT for better safety and security?). In particular in urban environments, the increasing deployments of IoT technologies and the rise of sensored and automated cities are opening up new avenues of threads and opportunities towards public safety and security. Although, there have been a number of deployment of diverse IoT systems, our understanding of these systems and their implications in the context of safety and security has just scratched the surface. Conference topics The First International Conference on Safety and Security with IoT (SaSeIoT 2014) is a new conference that aims to explore these dynamics within the scope of IoT in the context of Safety and Security. The conference solicits original and inspiring research contributions from technology experts, researchers, designers, practitioners in academia, authorities and industry, and promises to offer a perfect forum to share knowledge, experiences, and best practices primarily in the following main application oriented themes: · Ensuring the resilience and security of IoT dependent infrastructures The topics of interest in this theme include, but are not

limited to:

  • Models, methods and tools for testing IoT infrastructures Design of resilient IoT infrastructures Detection, prevention, response and mitigation of cyber threats to IoT Trust and identity management in IoT
· Using IoT for crisis and emergency management The topics of interest in this theme include, but are not limited to:
  • IoT for thread and hazard detection IoT for situation-awareness IoT for crisis and emergency response IoT for command & control IoT for emergency forces

PERGAMES 2014 https://iot-360.eu/2014/pergames-2014/ https://iot-360.eu/2014/pergames-2014/#comments Thu, 01 May 2014 00:21:05 +0000 https://iot-360.eu/?p=419 Pervasive Games: https://pergames.org/2014

Quickly emerging from the fast-paced growth of mobile communications and wireless technologies, pervasive games take gaming away from the computer screen and back to the three-dimensional world. Now games can be designed to be played in public spaces like hospitals and rehabilitation centers, shopping malls, conferences, museums and other non-traditional game venues. The increasing deployments of Internet of Thing (IoT) technologies are opening up new avenues of research and deployment opportunities towards that future of pervasive games design. Game designers need to understand how to use the world as a game space-and both the challenges and advantages

of doing so. This workshop shows how to change the face of play by designing for: who plays, when and where they play and what that play means to all involved. It will tackle key aspects of pervasive games that concern game designers and stakeholders: what makes these games compelling, what makes them possible today and how they are made. For game researchers, it provides a solid theoretical, philosophical and aesthetic understanding of this genre as well as its several application areas. Pervasive Games workshop activities will cover everything from theory and design to history and marketing. These “Gamified ” two days will engage participants in a progressive, innovative, and exciting workshop of pervasive games development. The participants will learn & experience the key building blocks needed to design Pervasive games for various sectors, such as Health-Wellbeing, AAL, Smart Cities, Smart Societies, Education, Culture, Heritage, Arts & Crafts, Tourism and more. Topics of interests include, but are not limited to:

  • Health-Wellbeing AAL Smart Cities Smart Societies Education Culture Heritage Arts & Crafts Tourism Creativity Internet of Things

COIOTE 2014 https://iot-360.eu/2014/coiote-2014/ https://iot-360.eu/2014/coiote-2014/#comments Thu, 01 May 2014 00:20:18 +0000 https://iot-360.eu/?p=417 The First International Conference on Cognitive Internet of Things Technologies: https://coiot.org/2014/show/home

Recent studies and reports have evinced that the Internet of Things will have a huge impact on our society. Conservative estimates predict there will be 50 billion of connected devices by 2020. Besides connecting real-time such numbers of objects, managing them and the data they generate will also pose challenges whether each of these produce no more than few bytes per minute in a very remote location or heavy data-streams within the heart of “resource rich” smart cities. Simply looking at the sheer size of these numbers, it is clear that competing for end-user attention will be the main hurdle to overcome. To put it in Mark Weiser’s words, these objects will have to “weave themselves into the fabric of our everyday life” leveraging on the features of a more Cognitive IoT where connected “things” become more intelligent and more autonomous. All this abundance of information sources generated by the ubiquitous computing phenomena opens new perspectives for many Artificial Intelligence branches, such as decision making strategies, reasoning, learning, etc. Cognitive IoT aims at gathering enthusiastic researchers and practitioners from AI and IoT-related areas sharing the common goal of addressing the new challenges posed by the Cognitive aspect of IoT, by using new or leveraging existing Artificial Intelligence techniques.

The list of covered topics is, without being limited to, as follows:
  • Knowledge representation in IoT Decision making strategies in IoT, data fusion Learning under IoT constraints Pattern recognition in IoT Biometrics for the IoT Individual and social behavior analysis through IoT sensing mechanisms Context
  • aware data management Environmental monitoring, network surveillance Multi agent strategies Transfer learning, information-theoretic learning Bio-inspired intelligence, neural networks for IoT Deep learning for IoT
