Biography

Dr. Ted Chang is Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and Vice President of Quanta Computer, known as the world’s biggest ODM and laptop computer maker. He oversees corporate technology strategy, future product development and global research partnership. Along with his role as CTO, he also serves as president of Quanta Research Institute (QRI) for advanced technology and innovation research, and as the General Manager of BU12 dedicated to e-Heath and Smart hospital business. 

Starting in 2004, Dr. Chang has initiated and served as the Quanta program director of the T-Party Project, a 10-year 45Mil. strategic research collaboration project for future computing and communication between Quanta and Computer Science and Artificial Lab (CSAIL) of Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He is also a Visiting Scientist at MIT CSAIL.

Dr. Chang joined Quanta in 2000 and was promoted in 2010 as the first CTO in Quanta history. During his first ten years with Quanta, he led the planning office, research lab, visual communication business unit, the corporate intellectual property team, as well as incubated several new business units and new spin-offs. He also served as the executive assistant to the CEO and Chairman of Quanta on his strategic planning effort.  

Dr. Chang has been a board director of Epoch Foundation, Quanta Research Cambridge, Inc. and Digimax, Inc., the best 3D animation film winner of Tokyo Anime 2008 and LA Movie Festival 2010. 

Over the past decade, Dr. Chang along with the QRI team have received recognition globally, including Best Technology Management Team Award from CSMOT (2006), Regional Winner Award from European Satellite Navigation Competition (2008), Best Innovation Enterprise Award from MOEA (2003, 2010), Quanta Best Invention Award (2010, 2013), Outstanding Alumni Award of IAA NCKU (2012), Outstanding Young Alumni Award of NCKU (2016) and Quanta Best Design Patent Award (2016) among many others.

Dr. Chang’s past projects, One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) and the QRI research model, were published as business cases by Harvard Business School. 

Dr. Chang holds B.S. (88), M.S. (92) and Ph.D. (96) degrees, all from the Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, National Cheng-Kung University (NCKU). Dr. Chang’s research interests now focus on human centric innovation for smarter and better lifestyle.
