Fahim Kawsar

Fahim Kawsar leads the Internet of Things research activity at Bell Labs. and working within the field of distributed systems, data analytics, and pervasive computing. He received his Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from Waseda University, Japan in 2009 where he worked on the development of distributed software systems and novel IoT services. With his original research on IoT, Fahim has demonstrated successfully how computationally augmented smart objects can substantially improve user experience by subtle presentation of contextual information, especially in the area of intentional behaviour change and informed decision making. Afterwards he shifted his application area from home computing to IoT enabled structured workplaces, e.g., offering situational knowledge to maintenance workers or to clinical nurses. Currently, he is leading the IoT (system and application) research effort of Bell Labs with a particular focus on Network Intelligence driven Behaviour Modeling for Future IoT Services.  Fahim’s work has been published widely  in international books and journals, presented at conferences across the world and has had projects commissioned. He has served or is currently serving as General Chair,  Program Chair or Program Committee Member in many conferences including the most prestigious ones in his field (e.g., UbiComp, MobiQuitous, IoT, etc.). He is a former Microsoft Research Fellow and has worked before at Nokia Research, and Lancaster University. His work and publications can be viewed at https://www.fahim-kawsar.net.
